FAQs
1. Do I need my own bike to take a lesson?
Not necessarily. While we recommend learning on your own gear to get used to its specific weight and feel, many of our programs offer pro-grade rental bikes and helmets. If you are bringing your own, please ensure it is a dedicated BMX bike with a working brake mountain bikes or cruisers aren't suitable for these specific maneuvers.
2. What safety gear is mandatory?
Safety is our top priority. All riders must wear a properly fitted CPSC-certified helmet. For beginners, we also strongly recommend:
Knee and elbow pads.
Shin guards (to protect against "pedal bite").
Full-fingered gloves.
Closed-toe shoes with flat soles (like Vans or Etnies).
3. I’ve never been to a skatepark. Is this for "real" beginners?
Absolutely. Our lessons are tiered. Level 1 starts on flat ground to master the basics: stance, balance, and "bunny hops." We don't drop into the bowls or hit the big ramps until you have the foundational bike control to do so safely. Everyone starts somewhere!
4. What happens if it rains?
BMX and wet concrete don't mix well. If there is heavy rain or the park surface is damp, we will reschedule the lesson for a clearer day. We usually make the call at least 2 hours before the session begins and will notify you via text or email.
5. Are there age or height requirements?
BMX is for everyone, but for safety, we generally recommend riders be at least 6 years old and able to ride a two-wheeled bike confidently without training wheels. Since BMX bikes come in different frame sizes (like 16", 18", and 20"), we’ll make sure you’re paired with a bike that fits your height.
